Most marriage discussions are honest. But when a family relies only on a biodata, a profile or a middleman, important details can go unchecked. This checklist covers what families commonly verify before a marriage is fixed.
The checklist
- Identity. Do the name, age and basic details match across the biodata, documents and conversations?
- Education. Are the degrees and institutions real, and do the dates add up?
- Employment and income. Does the person work where they say, in the role described? Salary claims are among the most often exaggerated.
- Family details. Are the family's residence, background and circumstances as described?
- Marital status. Is it stated clearly and consistently?
- Online presence. Do social media and matrimonial profiles tell the same story?
- References. Can mutual contacts confirm what you have heard?
Extra checks for NRI matches
For a groom or bride living abroad, families often check the overseas employer, city and position. These are harder to confirm from India, which is why NRI matches are a common reason families seek professional help.
Doing it respectfully
Verification is about protecting both families, not accusing anyone. Keep checks factual, lawful and private. If details do not add up, a discreet pre-matrimonial investigation can help.
